Trịnh Thế Dân (鄭世民）is a Chinese - Vietnamese singer/songwriter born and raised in the town of Ba Ria, Vietnam. He is known for his stage name as Shimin, which is derived from the Latin transcription of his Chinese name (Zheng Shimin)

 

Shimin started to show his passion in singing at a very young age, which, according to him, is a inheritance from his parents'. However, not until his first year in college did he begin to learn how to sing and perform more professionally with his musical club.

 

Having been forced to learn English when he was a kid, Shimin wrote most of his songs in English, claiming that it gives him flexibility in expressing his thoughts and feelings. His first self-published song named "Compatible" was released in September 2016. After that, Shimin decided to pursue his music career by applying to study about the Creative Industries at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. During this time, he has been writing songs and learning to produce music with the hope of releasing a full album of his own.
